Almonds, like all nuts, contain fat, but they are full of the “good,” heart-healthy fat — that’s why they lower cholesterol so well. This “good” fat also keeps you full longer, which can help prevent unhealthy snacking. In fact, almonds don’t cause weight gain unless you eat too many — just like any other food.

Almonds can help with weight loss
Some scientific evidence shows that almonds can even help with weight loss. A study published in 2003 in the International Journal of Obesity and Related Metabolic Disorders found that overweight people lost more weight on an almond-enriched, low-calorie diet high in the “good” fats than on a low-calorie diet high in complex carbohydrates. After six months, those on the almond diet had a 62% greater reduction in their weight and body mass index, a 50% greater reduction in waist circumference, and a 56% greater reduction in body fat than those on the low-calorie, high-carbohydrate diet.
